Rookie righthander Jim Hughes won his fifth straight game to give the Twins a 3-2 triumph over the Brewers. The only hits off Hughes were Robin Yount's single in the first and a double by Sixto Lezcano and single by Pedro Garcia in the third when the Brewers scored both their runs.

The Twins got two runs in the fifth when Danny Thompson singled, Glenn Borgmann walked and both runners advanced on Steve Braun's sacrifice. Rod Carew's sacrifice fly plated one run and the other came home when shortstop Yount threw wildly to first on Bobby Darwin's grounder. The decisive run came in the sixth as Larry Hisle opened the frame with a single, advanced to second on an infield out and scored on Thompson's single to center. [The Sporting News]
