Gary Carter stroked a game-winning sacrifice fly in the ninth inning and Steve Rogers hurled a four-hitter as the Expos edged the Astros, 2-1. Singles by Rich Coggins and Larry Biittner and a walk to Mike Jorgensen loaded the sacks for the Expos with one out.

Joe Niekro relieved starter Doug Konieczny and Carter then drove in the winning run. The other Expos' run had come in the first frame on a homer by Pepe Mangual. The Astros tied the game in the bottom of the first on Roger Metzger's single, an infield out and Bob Watson's RBI single. [The Sporting News]
