. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Rookie Randy Tate gave up only four hits in seven innings and Rusty Staub hit a pair of run-scoring singles to lead the Mets to a 5-1 victory over the Braves. Tate was lifted in the eighth after walking leadoff batter Larvell Blanks and reliever Bob Apodaca finished. The Mets erupted for three runs on five singles in their first turn at bat, the runs being driven in by Ed Kranepool, Staub and Mike Phillips.

Felix Millan doubled and was singled home by Staub in the fifth and John Milner singled home Gene Clines in the seventh. The Braves' only run came in the third on Vic Correll's triple and Ron Reed's RBI single. [The Sporting News]
