The Padres scored their first time at bat as Johnny Grubb led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice and then scored on a groundout by Bobby Tolan. Dave Winfield hit a homer in the fourth and the Padres got three more runs in the seventh on four hits and a Pirate error. Jones lowered his ERA to 1.58 while winning his fourth straight game.
