Bobby Bonds' three-run homer was the big blow as the Yankees downed the Rangers, 9-5. The circuit clout came in the fourth inning with the Yanks leading, 3-2, and followed a single by Chris Chambliss and pitcher Jackie Brown's error on an attempted sacrifice. Bonds opened the Yankee first inning with a walk, stole second and scored on Elliott Maddox's triple. Maddox scored on Roy White's single. After Thurman Munson bounced into a double play, Alex Johnson was safe on an error and scored on Graig Nettles' double.

Joe Lovitto's sacrifice fly gave the Rangers a run in the first and Roy Howell's pinch-hit homer another in the fourth. Roy Smalley's pinch-hit double with the bases loaded accounted for the last three Ranger scores. [The Sporting News]
