Earl Williams, who was batting only .206, smashed a three-run homer as well as two singles, to pace the Braves' 12-hit attack in a 6-3 victory over the Mets. The Braves put together doubles by Ralph Garr and Dusty Baker for a run in the first inning and added another on a single by Cito Gaston, error by Rusty Staub and sacrifice fly by Larvell Blanks in the second before Marty Perez and Darrell Evans singled in the third and Williams hit his homer. Singles by Blanks and Vic Correll in the fourth and a balk by Jerry Koosman wrapped up the Braves' scoring.

The Mets scored once in the second on a triple by Mike Phillips and sacrifice fly by John Stearns. Their other runs followed in the seventh on a single by Stearns and doubles by Jack Heidemann and Felix Millan before Tom House took the mound to pick up the save in relief of Buzz Capra.
