Former Red Sox player Deron Johnson, signed this spring by the White Sox after his Boston release, broke a scoreless tie with a leadoff homer in the fourth. Chicago went on to defeat the Red Sox, 9-2. The White Sox got two more off loser Bill Lee in the fourth, one when he made a wild pickoff throw following a single by Bill Stein and the other on a double by Buddy Bradford, who reached third on an error, and Brian Downing's single.

The Red Sox reached winner Stan Bahnsen for single runs in the fourth and fifth, but Bucky Dent singled home Bob Coluccio, who had doubled, in the seventh. Chicago tacked on five more in the ninth to break the game open. Dent singled in one run on the heels of a triple by Coluccio. [The Sporting News]
