A wild pitch and wild throw by Sadecki enabled the Cardinals to tie the score with two unearned runs on one hit in the third. Sadecki suddenly lost his stuff in the eighth and the Cards broke the tie with three runs on a safe bunt by Ted Sizemore, single by Luis Melendez, triple by Reggie Smith and single by Ken Reitz.
