Consecutive homers by Mike Schmidt and Ollie Brown in the second inning sent the Phillies on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Padres. A single by Johnny Grubb, walk to Dave Winfield and singles by Willie McCovey and Tito Fuentes produced the Padres' pair in the first. The Phillies tied the score in their half when Bob Boone singled with the bases loaded.

After Schmidt and Brown belted their homers in the second, the Phillies pulled away with another run in the fifth when Boone hit a sacrifice fly for his third RBI of the game. Two walks, a single by Terry Harmon and an error accounted for the Phillies' final pair in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
