The Mets put over their winning run in the eighth. Felix Millan opened the stanza with a single and, after a sacrifice by Joe Torre, Staub was passed intentionally. Griffin then uncorked a wild pitch, leading to another intentional pass to Ed Kranepool to load the bases.
