Posting his first major league shutout, Lerrin LaGrow yielded only five singles and pitched the Tigers to a 3-0 victory over the Athletics. The Tigers reached Vida Blue for their first run in the fifth inning when Bill Freehan was hit by a pitch and Ron LeFlore and Gary Sutherland singled.
