A triple by Tommy Davis and double by Dave Duncan helped the Orioles score five runs in the fifth inning to gain a 7-3 victory over the Royals. Davis singled for one of the Orioles' two runs in the first inning, but George Brett tied the score with a homer in the second.

Davis' triple sent Al Bumbry across the plate with the tie-breaking tally in the fifth. Lee May singled to drive in Davis. After Ken Singleton singled and Paul Blair walked to load the bases, Brooks Robinson hit a sacrifice fly. Duncan then put the capper on the Orioles' scoring with his two-run double.
