Sparked by Richie Hebner, who hit a homer, the Pirates rallied for two runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Giants, 7-6. The Pirates batted their way to a 5-2 lead before the Giants went ahead with three runs in the eighth on a single by Derrel Thomas, double by Bobby Murcer, triple by Chris Speier and sacrifice fly by Glenn Adams.

In the Pirates' half, Hebner promptly tied the score with his homer. With one out, Bob Robertson batted for Ramon Hernandez and singled. Mario Mendoza, taking the paths for Robertson, raced to third on a single by Rennie Stennett and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Manny Sanguillen. [The Sporting News]
