Mike Hargrove singled in the 12th inning for his fourth hit of the game and drove in the go-ahead run as the Rangers scored twice to defeat the Indians, 5-4. Rick Manning also had four hits for the Indians. Hargrove homered in the eighth to send the Rangers ahead, 3-2, but the Indians tied the score in the ninth on singles by Frank Robinson and Charlie Spikes and a sacrifice fly by John Ellis.

In the 12th, Toby Harrah, Jeff Burroughs and Hargrove put together singles for the tie-breaking tally. Hargrove was out trying for a double, but Jim Spencer walked and Lenny Randle singled to produce what proved to be the winning run.
