. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A single by Lenny Randle in the 17th inning, scoring Jeff Burroughs, decided the longest game in the major leagues so far this season and gave the Rangers a 7-6 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader after the Indians won the opener, 3-2. In the lidlifter, the Indians scored all their runs in the fourth inning on a double by Rick Manning, single by Oscar Gamble, infield hit by Charlie Spikes and double by John Ellis. Rangers' runs came on homers by Toby Harrah and Burroughs.

In the second game, Burroughs and Jim Fregosi each hit for the circuit with a man on base and Randle contributed a solo shot to pace the Rangers to a 6-4 lead before Ellis came through with a two-run homer for the Indians in the ninth to tie the score. The clubs then went through seven scoreless stanzas before singles by Burroughs, Mike Hargrove and Randle produced the Rangers' winning run in the 17th. [The Sporting News]
