Heavy rains that flooded the roads around the Astrodome caused a 54-minute delay in the start of the game and merely added to the bad luck of the Astros, who lost to the Cubs, 4-3, in 10 innings for their ninth straight defeat. The Astros counted twice in the first inning on sacrifice flies by Ken Boswell and Bob Watson, but the Cubs pulled even in the third when Manny Trillo singled, Don Kessinger doubled and Jose Cardenal singled.

The Astros took the lead again on a run-scoring single by Larry Milbourne in the fifth, only to have the Cubs tie the score in the ninth on singles by Andre Thornton and Rob Sperring and a sacrifice fly by Adrian Garrett. Then in the 10th, Bill Madlock doubled and, following an intentional pass to Rick Monday, Jerry Morales singled to drive in deciding run. [The Sporting News]
