Darrell Porter, who drove in all of the Brewers' runs in the previous day's 4-3 victory over the Angels, smashed a homer in the ninth inning to beat the White Sox, 1-0. The homer was the first off Rich Gossage in 54 2/3 innings this season.

Bill Travers, who started for the Brewers, yielded only one hit before being lifted after Carlos May walked in the seventh. Eduardo Rodriguez in turn gave way in the ninth to Tom Murphy, who ended the game by getting Jorge Orta to hit into a double play.
