After coming from behind with four runs in the ninth inning, the Twins scored again on a single by Danny Thompson in the 11th to defeat the Indians, 11-10. Boog Powell hit a homer and single, driving in two runs, and Rico Carty plated a pair with a single to pace the Indians to a 10-6 lead before the Twins erupted in the ninth. Tony Oliva singled and Eric Soderholm walked, Tom Kelly grounded to Carty and when the first baseman made a bad throw to second trying to start a double play, Luis Gomez scored as the pinch-runner for Oliva.

Dan Ford and Thompson had batted out of turn undetected previously in the game, but the Twins caught their mistake. Ford went up in his proper order and grounded out, scoring Soderholm. Thompson beat out an infield hit to drive in Kelly. Danny Walton then batted for Phil Roof and hit his first homer of the season to tie the score.
