Faced with the loss of both games, the Yankees rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to gain a 4-2 victory for a split of a twi-night doubleheader with the Brewers, who won the opener, 4-3, on an unearned run. In the first game, the Yankees scored all their runs in the fifth inning, two crossing the plate on a pinch-single by Roy White. The Brewers picked up a pair in the seventh and put over the tying and winning runs in the eighth. Kurt Bevacqua and Gorman Thomas singled and, after Robin Yount forced Bevacqua, Sixto Lezcano singled to score Thomas. George Scott then lifted a pop fly behind short and when Jim Mason dropped the ball, Yount scurried across the plate.
