The Reds handed Blue Moon Odom his third straight defeat, rapping the former American leaguer for three runs in the third inning en route to a 6-1 victory over the Braves. Cesar Geronimo tripled and Jack Billingham singled for the first counter. Pete Rose grounded into a double play but Ken Griffey singled, Joe Morgan walked and both then scored on a double by Johnny Bench.

The Reds added their last three runs off reliever Mike Beard, two of them unearned. Odom drove in the Braves' lone run with a double in the third, scoring Larvell Blanks, who had singled. Billingham retired after six innings and Will McEnaney finished the game for the Reds. [The Sporting News]
