Triples by Thurman Munson and Walt Williams led to the Yankees defeating the Orioles, 2-1, for their fifth straight victory and 20th in the last 25 games. The Orioles scored their run in the first inning when Paul Blair walked and raced home on a single by Tommy Davis, who hit a line drive that Roy White lost in the stadium lights.

Jim Palmer protected the Orioles' slim lead until the seventh when Munson hit his triple and Chris Chambliss singled. Williams then led off the ninth with his three-bagger and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Munson. [The Sporting News]
