Dan Ford's two-run single broke open a tie game in the ninth inning, boosting the Twins to an 8-5 victory over the Rangers and a split of a doubleheader. The Rangers captured the opener, 2-0, on home runs by Cesar Tovar and Tom Grieve as Steve Hargan scattered six hits.

The winning rally in the second game came after two were out. Rod Carew walked and was singled to third by Steve Brye. After Brye stole second, Eric Soderholm was given an intentional pass.
