The Tigers piled up 16 hits, including three homers in one inning, to beat the Brewers, 11-2, in the second game of a doubleheader after Mickey Lolich won the first game, 7-5, with help from John Hiller in the ninth inning. Lolich gave up 12 hits before Hiller came in to retire the last two batters for his 10th save of the season. Three of the Tigers' runs were unearned. Their 11 hits included a homer by Ron LeFlore.

In the nightcap, the Tigers jumped on Pete Broberg for four runs in the first inning. Aurelio Rodriguez led off the second with a homer. After a single by LeFlore, Bill Champion relieved Broberg and gave up successive circuit clouts by Ben Oglivie and Dan Meyer.
