Larry Parrish homered for the Expos in the seventh to tie the score at 1-1, but the Cards took the lead again with two runs in their half on a pass to Lou Brock, triple by Ron Fairly and single by Ted Simmons.

The Expos opened their rally in the eighth with a single by Pepe Mangual. After Tim Foli struck out, Jorgensen tied the score with his homer. Larry Biittner then grounded out, but Barry Foote singled to chase Lynn McGlothen.
