. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Bill Greif, who took over after Jerry Morales singled off Brent Strom in the ninth inning, retired three straight batters to complete the Padres' 3-2 victory over the Cubs, who suffered their fifth straight defeat. The Padres took a 2-0 lead before the Cubs tied the score in the third on singles by Manny Trillo and Rob Sperring, a sacrifice by Geoff Zahn and single by Don Kessinger. The Padres broke the tie in the fourth when Dave Winfield singled, Dick Sharon walked and Hector Torres singled to drive in what proved to be the winning run. [The Sporting News]
