The Red Sox, after taking the lead when Bernie Carbo homered with two men on base in the sixth inning, added four runs in the eighth to defeat the Rangers, 11-8. The Red Sox started the eighth by loading the bases with one out on a single by Bob Heise, double by Tim Blackwell and intentional pass to Rick Miller.

Doug Griffin singled, driving in two runs. Miller took third and Griffin advanced to second on the throw to the plate. Carl Yastrzemski then singled to plate another pair. The Rangers had two-run homers by Jeff Burroughs, Mike Cubbage and Toby Harrah. [The Sporting News]
