Allowing only two hits, Wilbur Wood pitched the White Sox to a 4-0 victory in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, but the Tigers came back to win the second game, 9-1. Mickey Lolich, who lost the opener to Wood, gave up all White Sox runs in the third inning on a walk and four hits, plus an error by Tom Veryzer that made all runs unearned.
