The Red Sox posted their ninth straight victory, defeating the Royals, 9-3, for their longest winning streak since the club's pennant year of 1967. The Red Sox started the attack on Steve Busby when Bernie Carbo singled and Carl Yastrzemski homered in the first inning.

A single by Carlton Fisk, an error and doubles by Carbo and denny Doyle added three runs in the second. Jim Rice homered over Fenway Park's center field wall in the third. Bill Lee held the Royals to six hits. Harmon Killebrew drove in all their runs with a double and homer. [The Sporting News]
