Capping a big day at bat, Dave Kingman homered with a man on base in the eighth inning, giving him six RBIs for the game, to climax a four-run rally that brought the Mets a 10-9 victory over the Astros. Kingman drove in one run with a grounder in the first inning and three with a homer in the fifth when the Mets came back with five runs after the Astros had scored five times in the top half of the inning.

Bob Watson drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single and knocked in two more with another bases-loaded single in the sixth. The Mets' rally in the eighth began with a run on doubles by Jesus Alou and Felix Millan.
