. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After winning the first game of a doubleheader, 9-2, behind Wilbur Wood's four-hit pitching, the White Sox overpowered the Brewers in the second game, 10-5, with the aid of a grand-slam homer by Bill Stein. Ken Henderson had four hits for the White Sox in the opener and drove in three runs. The Brewers' pair came on a homer by Gorman Thomas in the second inning.

The Brewers knocked out Claude Osteen in the first inning of the nightcap, getting a double by Bobby Mitchell and triple by Hank Aaron while scoring four runs. Danny Osborn held the Brewers scoreless for 6 1/3 innings before turning over the mound to Bill Gogolewski, who gave up the Brewers' last run on a homer by George Scott. The White Sox, after picking up a pair in the second, put the game away in the fourth on the first grand slam of Stein's major league career. The blow came off Pete Broberg after Henderson singled, Bill Melton was hit by a pitch and Nyls Nyman beat out an infield grounder. Melton added three runs to the White Sox' total with a homer in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
