Dave Kingman hit a homer and three singles, driving in three runs, to lead the Mets to a 6-3 victory over the Cubs. Kingman plated one run with a single in the first inning and hit his homer with Rusty Staub on base in the third. Mike Phillips batted in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the fifth.

Paul Reuschel made his debut with the Cubs, pitching in the same game with his brother Rick, who started and was knocked out in the fifth. Paul worked the last two innings in relief. [The Sporting News]
