Paul Splittorff, making his first start since June 29 after serving time in the bullpen, allowed only five hits in 6 1/3 innings and was a winner when the Royals defeated the Twins, 5-2. George Brett drove in the Royals' first run with a sacrifice fly in the second and then accounted for two more with a homer in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
