Willie McCovey was hit by a pitch in the eighth and after successive forceouts by Dave Winfield and Bobby Tolan, a stolen base by Tolan, wild throw by catcher Skip Jutze on the play and an error by Larry Milbourne on a grounder by Hector Torres allowed the tie-breaking run to score.
