The Tigers took a 2-1 lead with homers by Jack Pierce and Gary Sutherland before the Red Sox put the game away with five runs in the fourth on a single by Rico Petrocelli, a hit batsman, singles by Bernie Carbo and Doyle, a double by Carl Yastrzemski and single by Fred Lynn.
