With a two-run triple by Brian Downing as the deciding blow, the White Sox defeated the Angels, 4-2, to enable Wilbur Wood to receive credit for his sixth straight victory. Jerry Hairston walked and Bucky Dent singled before Downing hit his first triple of the season in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Wood was lifted in the seventh and Rich Gossage gave up a run-scoring single by Adrian Garrett before checking the Angels the rest of the way. [The Sporting News]
