Going from feast to famine, the Angels collected 17 hits and won the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 10-4, before being held to four hits while losing the second game to the White Sox, 4-1. Mickey Rivers rapped four hits and Dave Chalk and Bobby Valentine had three apiece in the opener. Jerry Remy drove in four runs with a pair of singles.

In the nightcap, the White Sox erupted for all their runs in the sixth inning after loading the bases on passes to Carlos May and Bill Melton around a double by Deron Johnson.
