Davey Lopes set a major league record for consecutive steals in a season when he swiped his 32nd straight (No. 51 this season) in the eighth inning of the Dodgers' 2-0 victory over the Mets. Lopes led off the game against loser Jerry Koosman with a walk and stole second. He doubled in the sixth and scored on Lee Lacy's single.

In the eighth he singled, was sacrificed to second and stole third to break Max Carey's consecutive theft record set with the Pirates in 1922. Koosman's wild pitch scored Lopes with the final run. Burt Hooton pitched a three-hitter for his fourth career shutout over the Mets. [The Sporting News]
