The Angels scored six runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Yankees, 8-1. Ed Figueroa's victory was his 10th of the season. The Angels took the lead in the fourth when Jerry Remy beat out a slow roller, took third on Adrian Garrett's single and scored on Catfish Hunter's wild pitch. Graig Nettles' throwing error on Dave Chalk's grounder scored Garrett with the go-ahead run.

Dave Collins drove in two runs in the eighth and Garrett added an RBI with his third hit. The Yankees collected three singles in the first, including an RBI single by Sandy Alomar, who had three hits. [The Sporting News]
