Held scoreless on four hits through the first eight innings, the White Sox rallied for three runs in the ninth and defeated the Orioles, 3-2. Mike Torrez, pitching for the Orioles, issued his seventh pass of the game to Bucky Dent to open the ninth before being yanked.

Grant Jackson, in relief, retired Bill Stein, but Brian Downing smashed a two-run homer to tie the score. After throwing two balls to Pat Kelly, Jackson yielded the mound to Ross Grimsley, who completed walking Kelly. Jorge Orta then hit a double, driving in Kelly with the winning run.
