A two-run homer by Greg Luzinski in the first inning and solo blast by Mike Schmidt in the second started the Phillies off to a 4-3 victory over the Padres. Tom Hilgendorf tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings for a relief triumph that put the Phils 1½ games behind the first-place Pirates.
