Tom Seaver, who helped himself by driving in one run and scoring another, gained his 17th victory when the Mets defeated the Giants, 3-0. Seaver left the game with one out in the eighth after a pass to Steve Ontiveros and single by Glenn Adams. Jerry Koosman, making his first relief appearance of the season, finished the shutout. The Mets scored on doubles by Mike Phillips and Del Unser in the third before tacking on a pair with a triple by Mike Phillips, single by Seaver, double by Felix Millan and sacrifice fly by Rusty Staub in the fifth.
