A winner for the first time since July 25, after losing four in a row, Randy Tate pitched the Mets to a 7-2 victory over the Padres. The complete game was only his second of the season. The Mets broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the fifth inning on singles by Felix Millan, Mike Vail, Rusty Staub and Wayne Garrett and an error.
