In a trade of shutouts, the White Sox won the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 2-0, and the Indians took the second game, 5-0. Claude Osteen and Rich Gossage combined to pitch the shutout for the White Sox, who scored their runs on homers by Jorge Orta and Bill Melton.

In the nightcap, Fritz Peterson swung the whitewash brush for the Indians and recorded his sixth straight victory. John Lowenstein started the Indians' scoring, leading off the first inning with a homer. [The Sporting News]
