Frank Tanana struck out 14 and allowed only five hits while pitching the Angels to a 4-1 victory over the Athletics. Tanana increased his season's strikeouts to 220 by fanning every batter in the Oakland lineup at least once, except for Gene Tenace, who collected three of the A's hits and accounted for their lone run with a homer in the ninth inning.

The Angels stole two bases, bringing their season total to 200 as the first major league club to reach that mark since the 1919 Pirates.
