Tony Perez became the Reds' career leader for RBIs, driving in his 1,010th run during the course of a 10-4 victory over the Padres. The Reds, after taking a 3-1 lead, sent 10 men to bat in the fifth inning and scored seven runs to break the game wide open.

Perez accounted for one run with a single during the outburst to break Frank Robinson's former club record of 1,009 RBIs. Dave Winfield, Mike Ivie and Dave Roberts homered for the Padres off Don Gullett, who gained his eighth straight victory, pitching seven innings before departing for a pinch-hitter.
