Catfish Hunter registered his sixth shutout and 19th victory of the season, beating the Tigers, 8-0, and turned in his 26th complete game to become the first Yankee pitcher to go the route that often since Carl Mays did it in 1920. Thurman Munson provided batting support for Hunter, knocking in four runs with a single, homer and sacrifice fly. Walt Williams also homered. [The Sporting News]
