A three-run outburst in the first inning that included a homer by Willie Crawford with a man on base enabled the Dodgers to defeat the Reds, 3-2. Davey Lopes led off with a single and took third on a wild pickoff throw by Clay Kirby, who made his first start for the Reds since August 5.

After Lee Lacy singled to drive in Lopes, Crawford rapped his round tripper. Doug Rau went the route for the Dodgers and held the Reds to four hits.
