The Astros, who beat Randy Jones, scored their initial run on singles by Cliff Johnson, Bob Watson and Larry Milbourne in the fourth inning. After the Padres picked up the tying tally on a wild pitch by Cosgrove in the seventh, the Astros loaded the bases in the eighth and counted their winning run on an infield grounder by Enos Cabell.
