Dave Kingman broke the Mets' club record for homers with his 35th of the season, hitting it with Rusty Staub on base in the ninth inning to beat the Cubs, 7-5. The Cubs knocked out Hank Webb before the Mets' starter could retire a batter in the first inning and jumped off to a 4-0 lead. The Mets, who had a two-run homer by Staub in the fifth, finally tied the score at 5-5 in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
