. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Battling to stay alive in the Western Division race, the Royals defeated the Athletics, 5-4, to move within seven games of the pace-setters. The A's, whose magic number remained at three, took a 4-3 lead on a homer by Joe Rudi in the seventh inning, but the Royals came back to win with two in their half. George Brett led off with a single and John Mayberry walked, Tony Solaita sacrificed and Al Cowens then singled, driving in the tying and winning tallies. [The Sporting News]
